Teresa Margolles wins prestigious prize

Our very own (ok, not really "ours") Teresa Margolles has won the prestigious art prize Artis Mundi in the UK.
Click here to see the video and hear what she has to say about her project.
It's powerful.

  1. It is powerful. Out of all the project introduced in her video, I really want to experience the sound installation of the recorded sounds from the incision in the morgue. Through the soundbites in the video, my shoulders twitched as I use my imagination to the gruesome images of a body being cut open. My hearing senses amplified as there weren't any visuals of the actions in the installation. Margolles is interested in the afterlife of the physical body, which intrigues me because often I hear about the interpretation of the afterlife of the spirit in our bodies. She has taken her experience in the morgue with the deceased and brought it to the public sphere for everyone to experience, hence that not many people have or want the opportunity to witness an incision-nist dissect a body. Moreover, this gruesome imaginary images from the sounds reminded us the horrible event that happened to every single person that died; this installation brought grieving to the personal level rather than just the mass grieving over the number of deaths.
